This specimen was lot 2072 in Goldberg sale 112 (Los Angeles, September 2019), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "Dahomey. 1000 Francs, 1971. Somba Woman. For the Tenth Anniversary of Independence. NGC graded Proof 66 Ultra Cameo." The sole coinage from this state in west Africa is this series of NCLT's of 1971, ranging from a silver hundred francs to gold 25,000 francs (KM 1 thru 9). A variety exists (KM 4.1) with the mintmark to the left of the denomination instead of to the right as shown here. Dahomey was renamed the Republic of Benin in 1975.

Recorded mintage: 6,500 including KM 4.1.

Specification: 51.5 g, 0.999 fine silver, 55 mm diameter.
