This specimen was lot 44293 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "CURACAO. 3 Reaal, ND (1818). NGC VF-30. A '3' in a circle counterstamped on a one-fifth cut of a Spanish Colonial portrait 8 Reales from Mexico City (1801-3, as evidenced by the presence of the final assayer initial "T"). A clear and bold stamp (graded EF Standard) on a well preserved and pleasantly toned host." Curaçao, like many islands in the Caribbean, suffered from a chronic shortage of coin as absentee planters pulled profits out of the islands. On several occasions, foreign coins were cut into segments to serve as small change.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.3-5.3 g, silver, this specimen 5.05 g.

Catalog reference: KM-28; Prid-27.
