This specimen was lot 23640 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 5 Pesos 1873-GW, AU55 NGC, sharply struck details with nearly fully lustrous surfaces, a choice example of this very scarce type." This type was struck 1873-75 and is much scarcer than the preceding type (KM 114).
Recorded mintage: 5,167 for 1873 and 1875.
Specification: 7.33 g, 0.875 fine gold, .206 troy oz AGW.
