This specimen was lot 40069 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,116. The catalog description[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. 10 Pesos, 1870-GW. NGC EF-45. Light circulation marks." Costa Rica officially switched from the peso to the colon in 1897, which currency was reformed again in 1917 and 1920. This type was struck 1870-72.
