This specimen was lot 1694 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "1866 1 peso. MS-62 (NGC). Types as above. Deep orange gold with some lustre. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck 1864-68 in several varieties; the one shown features a small "UN" on the reverse. It is not rare in circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: 35,000 (all types, KM 107.1 thru 107.3).
Specification: 1.52 g, 0.875 fine gold, .043 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 1.44 grams, 14.40 mm diameter.
