This specimen was lot 4635 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $264.50. The catalog description [2] noted, "Costa Rica. ¼ Centavo, ND (1865). Obverse: COSTA RICA. Reverse: Value. Toned. NGC graded EF-40. The Judy Cahn Collection." This scarce and enigmatic issue was struck in 1865 along with one, five, ten, twenty-five and fifty centavos coins.
