This specimen was lot 20430 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Central American Republic gold Escudo 1849-JB CR, AU53 NGC, very bold and attractive with every leaf on the Ceiba tree clearly visible. Scarce without the lion countermark. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." This type is listed for Guatemala for 1824-25 and Costa Rica for 1828-50. This is a common date
