This specimen was lot 30647 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Central American Republic 1/2 Real 1846 CR-JB MS63 PCGS, San Jose mint. 'CRESCA.' An absolutely stunning and choice piece, featuring a wondrous array of toning comprised of cobalt, burnt sienna, and russet gold. A hint of underlying luster peeks through from below, and as a whole, this specimen presents itself as an enchanting ocular experience." This type is listed for 1846-49 with reduced fineness from the previous issue. It is more often seen with the counterstamp of 1849-57 (KM 68). This date comes with "CRESCA" (shown here) or "CREZCA" (quite a bit scarcer).
