Cordoba 1840 medio real rev DSLR.jpg

The province of Cordoba in Argentina struck half reales in numerous varieties 1839-41 and 1850-54. For 1840, we note KM 3, shown here, with "EN UNION Y LIVERTAD" on the reverse, and KM 5, with "CONFEDERADA" on the reverse. Libertad is also misspelled "LIVEITAD" on some examples. One might think that the profusion of varieties means this issue is common but that is not the case. Similar quarter reales (KM 2.2) and one reales (KM 9 thru KM 14) were struck in 1840. "PNP" stands for Pedro Nolasco Pizarro. The coinage for Cordoba runs 1833-54.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.
