Cordoba (1853-54) 1/4 real
The first specimen was lot 20224 in Heritage Auctions sale 3005 (Long Beach, May 2009), where it sold for $373.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Province of Cordoba 1/4 Real ND (1853-54), MS65 NGC, eight pointed sunface, a superb example with sharp details and lightly toned, original mint luster. Very rare in this select quality!" The province of Cordoba in Argentina issued an extensive series of silver coins, quarter real thru eight reales, during 1833-54. The third specimen was lot 41019 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "ARGENTINA. Cordoba. 1/4 Real, ND (1853-54). NGC EF Details--Cleaned. Variety with 10-pointed sun. This RARE variety for this undated issue showcases its minimalistic detail with great clarity on each side. Some cleaning marks are visible under magnification, but the coin retains a lustrous and fresh appearance. From the EMO Collection." This specimen was offered again as lot 37489 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $192.
