This specimen was lot 38372 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $45. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Konstanz. Batzen, ND (1499-1533). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details." This type was struck early in the sixteenth century in numerous varieties. Later batzen or four kreuzer cited the emperor Maximilian. The city of Constance, on the shore of the lake of the same name, was strongly influenced by the coinage of neighboring Switzerland. The reverse motto, "Tibi soli gloria honor", translates as, "Glory and honor to you [o Lord] alone".
