Colombia 1978 500 pesos
This specimen was part of lot 31331 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), which sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Colombia. Republic 3-Piece Certified gold & silver Conservation Proof Set 1978 NGC, 1) 'Crocodile' 500 Pesos - PR69 Ultra Cameo; 2) "Hummingbird" 750 Pesos - PR68 Ultra Cameo, KM 265; 3) gold "Ocelot" 15,000 Pesos - PR69 Ultra Cameo, KM 266. A pristine conservation set marked by a near-pinnacle quality of preservation for every included issue. The gold 15,000 Pesos saw a mintage of only 148 examples." This type, also struck in 1979, was accompanied by a silver 750 pesos (KM 265) and a gold 15,000 pesos (KM 266).
