This 15,000 pesos is an NCLT ("non-circulating legal tender") commemorative of the centennial of the death of hero Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera. This specimen was lot 719 in Jean Elsen sale 104 (Brussels, March 2010), where it sold for 1,300 euro. The catalog description noted,
"COLOMBIE, République (1819- ), AV 1500 pesos, 1978, Ocelot. Rare. Seulement 146 p. frappées. Flan Poli." (Republic of Colombia, gold 1500 pesos of 1978. Ocelet design. Rare, only 146 pieces struck in Proof.)
High value commemoratives of this nature generally went to political insiders and often were never available for sale to the public.
