SB1021-71252r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71252 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDONESIA. 10 Birr, EE 1970 (1977-78). NGC MS-69. Mintage: 4,002. Featuring the Bearded Vulture, this conservation series issue features strong reflective qualities in the fields and designs that display limited contrast." Actually, this NCLT was struck for Ethiopia along with a gold 600 birr. The SCWC states that this coin was struck in sterling silver but we believe it was struck in 0.500 fine silver like the other issues of this conservation series intended to benefit the World Wildlife Fund. The proofs were indeed struck in sterling.

Recorded mintage: 4,002 + 3,460 proofs struck at 28.28 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Specification: 25.31 g, 0.500 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-61.
