The specimen shown is a peso from the Bogotá mint, one of a type struck 1862-68 while the country was known as the "Estados Unidos de Colombia." The design was changed to a liberty head style in 1868-71, after which the silver peso was dropped infavor of fifty centavos. The type is not rare but scarce in nice condition. There is a very rare issue from Popayán (KM 139.2).
