Colombia 1839-B RS real

This specimen was lot 42357 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1839-RS Real. Bogotá mint. EF-45 (PCGS). Light silver gray with a hint of golden toning and strong luster on the reverse. Some faint hairlines are noted." This type was struck 1839-41, 1844-46 at Popayan and 1837-46 at Bogotá. Nueva Granada was a Centralist Republic created upon the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1830. The region held this name until 1858, when the Granadine Confederation was formed.
