from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 116

This specimen was lot 116 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, 16 pesos, 1839RS. Choice AU with luster and nice strike, no more than the usual marks for that grade." This type, struck at Bogotá 1837-49, replaced the earlier eight escudos (KM 82.1) and is identical in size and weight. It was also produced at Popayán.
