Sedwick sale 25, lot 33

This specimen was lot 33 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2018), where it sold for $1,904. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, cob 2 escudos, 1659R, PCGS AU58. Choice full shield (well centered) with most of crown, NR to left, II-R to right, full but off-center cross with bold 165 of date (the final digit 9 certain but doubled), toned in crevices. PCGS #35328785." The production of cobs continued sporadically into the 1740's. It was superseded by milled portrait coinage. As with most cobs, specimens with legible dates form a minority of survivors.
