Künker sale 294, lot 3673

This specimen was lot 3673 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €480 (about US$647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KÖLN, ERZBISTUM, Dietrich II. von Moers, 1414-1463. Goldgulden o. J. (1420), Riel. GOLD. Sehr schön. (Germany, archbishopric of Cologne, Dietrich II of Moers, 1414-63, undated goldgulden, Riel mint. Very fine.)"

Both the city and the archbishop of Cologne (or Koln) issued gold ducats and it takes a keen eye to tell them apart. Friedberg notes this as common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.45 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-794; Noss 304 c.
