Goldberg sale 90, lot 3414

This specimen was lot 3414 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it sold for $235. The catalog description^[1] noted, "China. 50 Yuan, 2003. Putuo Mountain Pilgrimage Gate. Seated Kuanyin with holographic background. Gem Proof." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This type was issued with a different reverse in 2004.

Recorded mintage: 33,000.

Specification: 3.11 g, 0.999 fine gold, .100 troy oz AGW.
