China (1924) 20 cash

This specimen was lot 52549 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 20 Cash, (1924). PCGS MS-62 Red Brown Gold Shield. The only example of the type seen at PCGS with the red-brown designation, this delightful specimen presents quality that is seldom encountered for a generally poorly struck series." This type is common in worn condition but scarce nice. It is the only twenty cash noted for year 13 of the republic. Twenty cash = two cents.
