Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 52421
SB421-52421r.jpg

This specimen was lot 52421 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $8,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 20 Cents, Year 15 (1926). PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. An elegant, near-Gem example of this popular minor, offering argent brilliance and a hint of golden-olive color near the peripheries." In the late 1920's, Chiang Kai-Shek's Nationalists managed to defeat the Communists and extort professions of loyalty from most of the major warlords. During that brief calm, the mints issued new designs featuring the proposed national symbols of dragon and phoenix. He was unable, however, to stave off Japanese aggression and a new round of fighting began in 1931.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.3 g, silver, 23 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: L&M-82; K-681; KM-Y335; WS-0115.
