The first specimen was lot 45596 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 2-1/2 Centavos, 1887-So. Santiago Mint. NGC MS-62 Red Brown." This type was struck in moderate numbers 1886-87 and 1895-98. Numerous overdates exist.
Recorded mintage: 500,000 including an 1887/6 overdate.
Specification: 8 g, copper, 27 mm diameter.
