This specimen was lot 45597 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 2 Centavos, 1885-So. Santiago Mint. NGC MS-63 Brown." This type was struck 1878-94. It is rather scarce in nice condition. It superseded a copper-nickel type (KM 147) that was probably too costly to produce.
Recorded mintage: 146,000.
