The first specimen was lot 73384 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Decimo, 1885-So. Santiago Mint. NGC MS-64. This sporty little minor presents a crisp strike and nearly pristine fields. Thoroughly pleasing for the eye to behold." This silver décimo or ten centavo piece was minted during 1879-1894, in 0.500 fine silver. The series immediately prior (1867-80) was 0.835 fine silver. All three series show the same condor obverse and shield reverse design.
Recorded mintage: 116,000 including 1885/4, a scarce date.
