Chile 1896 2-1/2 centavos

This copper 2½ centavos piece was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1886-98. We don't know why this coin was deemed to be necessary when a copper two centavos of very similar design was issued 1878-94. Numerous overdates exist.

Recorded mintage: 172,000.

Specification: 8 g, copper, 27 mm diameter.
