Chile 1861 10 pesos
This specimen was lot 1315 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,841 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN AUS ÜBERSEE · CHILE, REPUBLIK 10 Pesos 1861 So, Santiago. 13,68 g Feingold. GOLD. Sehr schön +. Aus der Familiensammlung Mohr. Erworben bei der Firma Fritz Rudolf Künker, Osnabrück. (republic of Chile, ten pesos of 1861, Santiago mint. Choice very fine.)"
This specimen was one of a series struck 1854-67 in Santiago, Chile. An earlier and a later type exist (KM 123 and KM 145), with slightly different designs for the arms and the standing Liberty. Similar designs were used on the gold one, two and five pesos.
Recorded mintage: 112,000 (second most common date).
Specification: 15.25 g, 0.900 fine gold.
