Chile 1861 peso oro

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 22136

The first specimen was lot 22136 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $188. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CHILE. Peso, 1861-So. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Lightly toned. From the Blue Moon Collection." This type was struck 1860-64 and, like the silver peso of 1853-62, is much scarcer than the SCWC values indicate. A modified design (KM 140) was issued 1867 and 1873.

Recorded mintage: 176,000.

Specification: 1.52 g, 0.900 fine gold.
