Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 37836

This specimen was lot 37836 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/2 Decimo, 1861-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS MS-62." This type was struck 1860-62 and has a low catalog value. Most survivors are in poor condition. It is slightly reduced in weight from the décimo of 1851-60 (KM 121), which was 1.25 g. The décimo and twenty centavos were similarly shrunk. Later, more common half décimos (minted 1864-94) used the perched condor design also seen on the one peso.

Recorded mintage: 338,000.

Specification: 1.15 g, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, reeded edge.
