CNG Lissner sale, lot 1372

This specimen was lot 1372 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $665.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Republic. 1818-present. AR 1/2 Decimo. Santiago mint. Dated 1860 So. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 62. Very lustrous with very light charcoal and amber patina. Only one of the date ever graded and very attractive. Purchased from Freeman Craig, March 1979." Chile converted to decimal coinage in the 1850's and these half and one decimos were part of the program. This half decimo was struck 1860-62 and is reduced in weight from the prior type (KM 121).

Recorded mintage: 372,000.

Specification: 1.15 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen Ø15 mm, 1.13 g, 6h axis.
