Sedwick sale 11, lot 106

The specimen shown was lot 106 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, 2 escudos, 1850LA. AXF with muted luster, no problems." This type was issued from Santiago 1846-51 and is the last issue of this denomination prior to the conversion to decimal coinage. It is not listed as expensive but it is seldom seen.

Specification: 6.7 g, 0.875 fine gold, .188 troy oz ASW, this specimen 6.7 grams.
