This specimen was lot 30438 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Escudos 1841-IJ, XF45 NGC. Very lightly toned and original with well-struck details. A superior example of the type." This type was struck 1839-45 in small numbers and was succeeded by a refined standing liberty design (KM 102.2) 1846-51.
