Ceylon 1945 cent
The first specimen was part of lot 33862 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Colony - George VI Six Coin Proof Set 1951, KM-PS1. Mintage of 150 sets in Proof. With original IG mint envelopes enclosed." This bronze cent was struck for Ceylon 1945-62 and is the last of the denomination to bear the royal portrait. Earlier dates exist. This coin was included in the 1951 proof set as this was the cent being minted at the time. Ceylon attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.
