This specimen was part of lot 33862 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Colony - George VI Six Coin Proof Set 1951, KM-PS1. Mintage of 150 sets in Proof. With original IG mint envelopes enclosed." This ten cent piece was struck for Ceylon 1951-62 and is the last of the denomination to bear the royal portrait. Ceylon attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.
Recorded mintage: 34,760,000 (struck with a frozen date until 1962) plus 150 proofs.
Specification: 4.21 g, nickel brass, 23 mm diameter.
