This specimen was lot 30228 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Proof 50 Cents 1927 PR66 NGC. Quite possibly lightly lacquered at the mint with essentially fully brilliant surfaces that sport glowing luster as a result of heavily die polish lines (as made) in the fields. A rarity in Proof condition." Ceylon attained her independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka. This type was struck 1919-29.
Recorded mintage: 500,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 5.83 g, .550 fine silver, 23.8 mm diameter.
