This specimen was lot 30229 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,116.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Proof 50 Cents 1928 PR66 NGC. The central motifs are lightly frosted with glassy surfaces existing beneath a gorgeous layer of dappled gold, purple and green patina. An exquisite representative of this elusive date in Proof condition." Ceylon attained her independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka. This type was struck 1919-29.

Recorded mintage: 500,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.83 g, .550 fine silver, 23.8 mm diameter.
