Ceylon 1904 cent
This specimen was lot 23320 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON. Cent, 1904. London Mint. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown Gold Shield. A decently struck Cent with nearly complete mint red bloom. Some inconsistencies in the original planchet have left a few darker streaks on the obverse." This type was issued 1904-10. It is common in all grades and was accompanied by a quarter cent and half cent. Half cents were struck for Ceylon as late as 1945. Ceylon, famous for tea, attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.
