This specimen was lot 23317 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON. 25 Cents, 1902. London Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Pop: 2, none graded finer by PCGS. This pleasing example of the type exhibits soft, full luster and lightly mottled toning." This type was struck for Ceylon in 1902-03 and 1907-10. It is the same weight as the Indian quarter rupee but is only 0.800 fine versus 0.917 fine for the quarter rupee. Ceylon, famous for tea, attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.

Recorded mintage: 400,000, plus proofs, a slightly better date.
