This specimen was lot 1381 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "CASTILE & LEÓN: Juan II, 1406-1454, AV dobla de la banda, Sevilla, coat-of-arms, with oblique band flanked by lions' heads // arms of Castile and Leon, mint initial S at the top, bold strike, struck 1430-1454, About Unc." The gold coinage of Spain prior to the rule of the Catholic Kings is rare. Friedberg notes this type for Burgos, Coruña, Avila, Seville and Toledo. Cayón notes that it was struck after 1442 with a face value of 100 maravedis.
