Canada 1986 50 dollars
This specimen was lot 3227 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 1562 € (about US$2,023 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Canadá. 1986. Isabel II. 50 dólares. AU. S/C- [about uncirculated]." Canada, enviously watching the krugerrand conquer world bullion markets in the mid-1970's, decided to enter her own product in 1979, dubbed the Maple Leaf. The first version stated "999 FINE GOLD"; this version of 1983-89 stated "9999 FINE GOLD". It is still in production altho the obverse bust has been updated several times. Other metals, such as silver and platinum, have been added to the program.
