Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 33113

This specimen was lot 33113 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 10 Dollars, 1986. Ottawa Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC MS-67. Delivering a charming eye appeal, this Superb-Gem yields good luster, with strong brilliance throughout." Canada, enviously watching the krugerrand conquer world bullion markets in the mid-1970's, decided to enter her own product in 1979, dubbed the Maple Leaf. The first version stated "999 FINE GOLD"; this version of 1982-89 stated "9999 FINE GOLD". It is still in production altho the obverse bust has been updated several times. Other metals, such as silver and platinum, have been added to the program.

Recorded mintage: 915,200.

Specification: 7.78 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.250 troy oz AGW.
