Canada 1934 cent
This specimen was lot 24249 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $7,050. The catalog description[2] noted, "George V Specimen Cent 1934, Ottawa mint, SP64 Red PCGS. An incredible 20th century rarity! When we sold a Specimen of the date as a part of the Belzberg Collection in 2003, we noted that only two examples were known at that point - the Belzberg coin and that from the John Pittman 1934 Specimen set. After comparing the plates from both collections to the present coin, we feel confident that this offering is, in fact, a third example. The PCGS and NGC censuses corroborate this finding with only two examples certified by PCGS (the Pittman set has not re-appeared to our knowledge). Lightly lacquered at the mint, the surfaces remain evidently glossy. Largely as a result, much of the original copper-red color, of lightly variegated saturation, enriches the surfaces. Flaws are essentially non-existent in any form and suggest a very conservative grade. The only Red certified example! From The Prager Collection of Canadian Specimen Coins." This type, struck at Ottawa 1920-36, is common in all grades tho the years 1922-25 are scarce.
Recorded mintage: 7,042,358.
