Canada 1906 5 cents

from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 2280

This specimen was lot 2280 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $940. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1906. PCGS MS-65 Secure Holder. A lovely example of this condition rarity in gem mint state. Gorgeous toning with the majority a slate hue, with some azure and cerulean highlights around the legends and a splash of rose in the reverse field." This type was struck 1902-10 for Edward VII. This date is common but not in this quality. The silver five cents was converted to nickel in 1922.

Specification: 1.15 g, 0.925 fine silver, 15.5 mm diameter.
