This specimen was lot 23235 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Cent 1858, MS64 RB PCGS, a highly attractive example of this initial key date with deep brown surfaces and plenty of mint red. Very scarce and desirable in this superior quality." This type, struck 1858-59, is common in all grades. It was issued with five, ten and twenty cent pieces as Canada's first decimal coinage. So many were made that no more cents would be struck until 1876.
