This specimen was lot 1203 in Jean Elsen sale 138 (Brussels, September 2018), where it sold for €420 (about US$579 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BURUNDI, Mwambutsa IV (1962-1966), AV 50 francs, 1962. Indépendance nationale. Flan poli. (kingdom of Burundi, Mwambutsa IV, 1962-66, gold fifty francs of 1962, national independence, proof.)"
This NCLT was included in a set comprising the five, ten, twenty-five, fifty and one hundred francs. The king was ousted by coup in 1966.
Recorded mintage: 3,500 proofs.
