This one pya was minted for Burma 1952-56, 1962 and 1965. The years 1956 and 1962 were struck only in proof and are rare; the other dates are very common in all grades. It was part of the first issue of decimal coinage for the country; 100 pyas = one kyat (in Indian equivalents, 100 paisa = one rupee). The country was renamed Myanmar in 1989.
