Burma CS 1214 kyat

This one kyat was minted for Burma in 1852. It is often catalogued as a rupee as it matches the Indian rupee in weight and module. It was accompanied by a five mu (half rupee, KM 9), a mat (quarter rupee, KM 8), a mu (two annas, KM 7) and a pe (one anna, KM 6). Burma was conquered by the British in stages but the last independent kingdom was snuffed out in 1886, and from then until 1948, Indian coins were used. The country was renamed Myanmar in 1989.
