This specimen was lot 1214 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "BURMA: Union of Burma, 50 pyas, 1956, a wonderful lustrous proof example! PCGS graded Proof 64 CAM." This type was struck 1952-56 and 1961-66. All dates are common but the proofs are rare. It was part of the first issue of decimal coinage for the country; 100 pyas = one kyat (in Indian equivalents, 100 paisa = one rupee). The country was renamed Myanmar in 1989.
