This specimen was lot 73264 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "BULGARIA. 20 Leva, 1989. Sofia Mint. PCGS PROOF-67 Deep Cameo. Commemorating the 120th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. A beautiful piece honoring the national academy of science, this charmer displays commendable deep cameo surfaces and is fully pleasing to the optic nerve." The silver commemoratives issued by the regime shrank as inflation bit even tho these were never intended to circulate. A twenty leva in copper-nickel-zinc (KM 181) was struck for circulation in 1989.
