Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1719-C 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 73515 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1719-C. Zellerfeld Mint. August Wilhelm. PCGS AU-50. Argent design details and lettering on surfaces of deep gray and dark cobalt leaning toward sable, though more lightly toned on the reverse. Light wear commensurate with the grade and some softness in the design details. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck for August Wilhelm 1714-30. Twenty-four mariengroschen made two-thirds of a thaler or one gulden.
